CANCELLED ….Districts 4 & 14 December Meeting

December 3, 2019 @ 4:30 pm - 8:00 pm EST

Dealing with Dangerous Student Behavior

4:30 – 5:00 Meet and Greet

5:00 – 6:00 Dealing with Dangerous Student Behavior

Have you or a colleague ever been slapped, scratched, punched, bitten or kicked by a student? Have you or your colleagues been told that this violent behavior from a student “is just part of your job?” Many MEA members testified last spring in support of LD 1370, a bill that would require administration to develop a plan of action with the employee who reports such an incident, and the union would also be involved in this process. LD1370 was passed and enacted into law this fall.

Dan Allen, the MEA Director of Training and Professional Development, will review and discuss the new law: “An Act to Address Dangerous Behavior in the Classroom.” He will explain the responsibilities required by administration and your rights under the new law and the role of the association in helping employees deal with these incidents.

It Is important that Association officers and representatives understand what the new law requires in order to best represent employees in these matters. Please encourage your Association members who work with students who exhibit violent behaviors to attend this meeting.
