National Board Candidate Support Workshop Series Bangor – December 14, 2019
December 14 @ 9:00 am - 3:00 pm ESTFree
MEA is now supporting National Board candidates in South Portland
Join us for the next MEA National Board support sessions – this time in Bangor, Augusta and Portland! We’ve added another venue to better serve our members who are seeking National Board for Professional Teaching Standards Certification. Professional Learning Facilitator Danette Kerrigan will host sessions in our South Portland office at 29 Christopher Toppi Dr. She joins PLFs Heidi Goodwin and Kristie Charette who have been doing this work for the MEA for several years now. Danette has supported candidates in her own district as well as across the country through an online learning system.
The remaining sessions dates for the 2019-20 school year are listed below. There is not cost for members to attend. MEA provides lunch.
Saturday, December 14
Saturday, January 11
Saturday, February 29
Saturday, March 14
Saturday, April 11
These workshops are designed to give you the information and encouragement that you need to complete the National Board Certification process. Find out what is involved, the time commitments required and how to get assistance with fees. The State of Maine will cover the cost of scholarships for National Board fees for candidates. Connect with other Maine candidates as you engage in the National Board process, learn the difference between Teaching Standards and Content Standards and what “evidence” of accomplished teaching really means. Tips for establishing time lines, organizing the work, and accessing resources for candidate support will also be shared.
Each workshop will have a different focus based on the needs of the candidates attending. You are encouraged to attend as many sessions as possible to get the full benefit of working with this group of dedicated Maine teachers! Participants will also receive contact hours for each workshop attended. Those who achieve certification are eligible for a $3,000 salary supplement provided by the state. Those who teach in a high needs school (50% or more free and reduced rate lunch) will receive an additional $2,000 beginning in the 2020-21 school year.
We look forward to you joining us.
