Who We Are
Certified members, including teachers, nurses, school counselors, school librarians, social workers and psychologists make up the largest group of members in the Association.
Our certificated members are leaders in the profession—and they all work hard to shape Maine’s youth—so they deserve an organization that works just as hard for them. Through advocacy in the state house as well as pay and benefit negotiations and so much more, MEA has the back of its members.
MEA Works For You
MEA supports public education by defending the rights of teachers so they can focus on what they do best. The job of educators in Maine is to educate, support and inspire Maine students. MEA’s job is to have their back. From the collective bargaining table to the classroom, the state house to the halls of local government – you can take comfort in the fact that the MEA is in partnership with those who transport, feed, teach and inspire Maine’s children. The MEA advocates on behalf of all professional and support staff so they have everything needed to succeed in supporting every Maine student.
MEA is a place where new teachers and veteran educators can come together to learn from one another and that’s what makes it a strong, dynamic and effective organization.
All MEA members have the opportunity to attend MEA conferences and trainings where they can receive information on a variety of topics including educational leadership, classroom management, parental involvement and other aspects that contribute to their professional growth. In addition, as a member you have access to a variety of exclusive discounts that in some cases can save you thousands of dollars. Read more about these benefits.
