“There is no question, this was a challenging budget year, but the Maine Education Association applauds the Maine Legislature for passing Part Two of the biennial budget this evening. This budget makes meaningful investments in education, healthcare, food security, and childcare. This budget provides stable funding for the essential services that Maine students, educators, and families rely on most.

“We are especially grateful for the Legislature’s continued commitment to Maine’s students and working families. This budget prioritizes an additional $30 million in funding for the University of Maine System, along with increased investments in the Community College System, including a continuation of the Free Community College Program for Maine graduates. These investments will help ensure that more Mainers can access affordable, high-quality postsecondary education—strengthening our workforce and economy for years to come.

“While no budget is perfect and there are still priorities we hope to see addressed in the future, we extend our sincere thanks to Senate President Mattie Daughtry and Speaker Ryan Fecteau for their leadership in passing a budget that prioritizes education funding—especially for public higher education system.

“This bill now heads to the Governor’s desk, where it awaits Governor Mills’ signature. We fully expect her to sign it—affirming Maine’s commitment to students, educators, and the future of our state.”
