The Education Committee is debating a bill that would increase the amount of money the State pays toward health care for qualified retired teachers and Ed Tech IIIs. The bill, LD 178, would increase the State’s share of this cost by 5% each year until the total amount paid by the State reaches 90%. Currently, the State pays 45% of the cost of health care for qualified retired educators.

It is critical lawmakers hear from educators, both retired and active, about why this increase in the State share is necessary. Please send a note to the members of the Education Committee and tell them you support LD 178. Sharing personal stories about how health care costs impact your livelihood are especially important. Lawmakers need to understand how health care costs affect your bottom line.
