School Librarians speak out against a bill that would limit access to certain books that are considered “obscene.” The bill, An Act to Prohibit the Dissemination of Obscene Material by Public Schools, will be heard before the Criminal Justice and Public Safety Committee.
Many educators question who determines what is “obscene,” and as one librarian from Foxcroft Academy states-“No educator is going to disregard a parent’s wishes….and to make legislation that puts our teachers at risk for being able to pick what they would like to discuss in their classrooms is just wrong.”
