MEA continues to hear about our members who are impacted by the Government Pension Offset and/or the Windfall Elimination Provision (GPO/WEP).
NEA has worked for years on repealing or reducing the effects of the GPO/WEP. H.R. 141 is the latest legislation proposed regarding the Social Security offsets. Social Security Fairness Act (H.R. 141), introduced in the 116th Congress by Rep. Rodney Davis (R-IL), which would fully repeal both the GPO and WEP.
MEA’s President, Grace Leavitt and MEA”s NEA Director, Amanda Cooper, advocate in support of any measure that will help fix this issue every time they visit Capitol Hill. It is also critical that other educators speak up as well so Congress hears our collective voice. MEA recommends you reach out to the members of our Congressional delegation and tell them your stories directly. MEA will continue to do what we can about this injustice.
