From the Maine Science Festival:
In celebration of Maine’s Bicentennial the Maine Science Festival will be shining an even larger spotlight on Maine science in 2020 with the first-ever all-Maine Headliner event: a Bangor Symphony Orchestra concert program exploring one of the state’s most treasured assets – the ocean. The MSF has commissioned Grammy-award winner Lucas Richman (composer, and music conductor for the Bangor Symphony Orchestra) to write a symphonic piece about climate change in the Gulf of Maine: The Warming Sea. This piece will have it’s world premiere at a Bangor Symphony Orchestra concert (Masterworks IV: Sounds of the Sea) that will double as the 2020 Maine Science Festival headliner and is also a Maine Bicentennial event.
In 2020, we are also partnering with Penobscot Theatre Company for the Maine premiere of Safety Net. This new play addresses the impact of opioids on a small town. We will have MSF events that will look at the science and research of addiction.
We are committed to working on bridging the silos that have kept science and humanities artificially separated, and we are honored to be teaming up with arts organizations to better understand two of the most important issues facing Maine.
